Shared Care Scotland gears up for Carers Week

Carers Week aims to raise awareness of unpaid carers and recognise the contribution they make to communities across the UK.

The theme for this year's Carers Week - taking place from 5-11 June - is recognising and supporting carers within our communities.

At Shared Care Scotland we are committed to supporting carers week and reinforce the huge difference that short breaks can make in carers’ lives.

Taking a break can help carers to build and nurture long- lasting relationships within their communities which, in turn, can help them sustain the challenges of their daily caring routines. Feeling part of a community, and being actively engaged with local organisations and businesses through short breaks can also help to tackle the fear of being lonely or left out.

During Carers Week, we will highlight and signpost carers to our services and resources that can help them access a break in their community.

Our directory and enquiry service are great places to start planning your short break and this will be just one of the resources we share at our Carers information event during carers week.

We'll be highlighting carers’ stories and projects from the Short Breaks Fund on our social platforms, website and newsletter.

We will also showcase the amazing work that our Respitality team has done through the years by connecting local businesses in the hospitality sector and carers within the same area. This connection enables carers to feel more supported and offers them the opportunity to take a break from the caring routine within their local community.

The Respitality Team will also be hosting the Edinburgh Napier University Respitality research showcase event, which will be a great insight into how our Scottish model works and what learning can be taken and implemented.
