Summary

Our Project this year was the over 21's social evenings. Which took place between Oct 20 and Sept 21. Carrying out Silent disco for the young people and giving 6 hours respite to the carers.

What CREATIVE BREAKS did

The short breaks that we chose for this period were Over 21s social evenings with a view of attending the Garage and Greenfield social club alternate months. Through the year we contacted Share Care Scotland to request a variation to the project. The period was still within Lockdown and restrictions and families were happy for us to have silent discos outdoors for our over 21s. This was approved.
We carried out 10 silent disco. Purchased our own headsets too and had a meals out also.

What Jack and Jill Support Group has learned

Planning and budgeting of the over 21s programme was a difficult thing to forecast, as COVID changes, price increases etc. Also in 2020, the maximum
unconstituted groups can receive is £5000, so we have had to adjust our number of events to fit in with budget.

COVID 19 restricting were still in place throughout some of our funding for the over 21s social nights, and its hard for groups who are
protection vulnerable families to keep up to date with the changes and families were frustrated. For example the night clubs were ready to open towards the end of our funding and most of the families felt it was unsafe to take the young people to a nightclub venue. We continued with the silent discos.

Developing new activities. We try to introduce new activities for our young adults and this year also we purchased blue tooth cordless kareoke mics that the young people enjoyed throughout the silent disco.
This year the children really enjoyed the ZipZapZOP game that staff played with them.

How Jack and Jill Support Group has benefitted from the funding

Our organisation like every year that we receive the Better Break funding benefit hugely from the funding. We
are funded fairly small amounts from several funders and Shared Care Scotland have given us the last 2 years for the Creative Breaks which is a difficult fund to receive.
Thinking of the COVID restrictions. Many of our young adults didn't understand why their lives have been changed by COVID
and their strict routines. The carers and those they care for have enjoyed the mutual benefit of the time away from each other and having fun with friends/other carers. This year there has been 3 new families reach the over 21 bracket. Which we welcomed.

Mum B is a single parent and as part of the Jack and Jill support group, the over 21s, have been a lifeline for her. This allows mum B to enjoy social life of her own that doesn't involve young adults.
MuM said As we know every parent with a child or young adult with additional support needs. There life revolves round the child/young adult and it mainly is everything round their activities and plans.
With Young adult B attending the over 21s social nights. This allows Mum B to participate in a social life of her own. This means Mum can plan ahead every month and enjoy the company of other adults and friends. Sometimes going to the cinema, booking a meal out or having some friends in the group round for coffee and a chat. Mum B said also this allows her to be an individual and just Young Adult B's mum.

Since mum C has joined the Jack and Jill Support Group which was initially a telephone call. She has now formed a strong bond of trust with staff members and as knock on effect of this. Mum C has trusted staff to take young adult C along to the over 21s social evenings.
Mum C has now met up with staff members for a coffee and a chat about how young adult C is enjoying there time at the over 21s social evenings.
Mum C is not as iscolated now and feels less alone with the small break at the social evenings this also gives her something to chat about and now Mum C can hold a conversation in turn this has given mum C a better quality of life.
