Summary
We provided outings and activities in the form of a holiday playscheme for 28 young people aged 5-20 with disabilities/additional support needs and their families (carers and siblings) so they can have fun and socialise while carers get a break from their everyday caring routine.
What Beachcombers Playscheme did
Various group outings and activities were provided. This was a varied programme of activities such as bowling, golf, trampolines and farm parks. Activities such as trips to the cinema, museums and places of interest at parks, beaches and country parks. Days out to the park incorporated group sports such as football, rounders and other activities such as walks for those less physically able.
Days out to the beach were delivered engaging in building sandcastles or searching for sea life. We had an outing for the families near the Christmas period a trip to the panto and a lunch outing for carers. We provided transport for families. Minibus transport pick families up from home and drop them off at home.
We were also to arrange a short break to a caravan for the families so that they could enjoy some time away.
What Beachcombers Playscheme has learned
We have learned that not every family is the same. They all enjoy different things, come from different backgrounds and circumstances. With this information that we have gained we will be able to tailor the next season to try and fit everyones individual needs.
How Beachcombers Playscheme has benefitted from the funding
With the funding received we were able to provide different activities and outings for the carers and their families. This has greatly impacted both the families emotional and physical wellbeing.

Some families found it difficult to arrange outings for their children as they had to worry about the cost of the activites. Due to being at the playscheme they do not have to worry about the costs of taking their children out as it is all paid for through funding recieved.
Outcome
We arranged for the carers to have lunch and meet up with one another. This provided them with the opportunity to socialise with other carers outside of their caring role.
