Full service description:
We offer a monthly lunch club and weekly BME English communication classes at Dundee Central Library (Thursday 10:30-12:00). Our volunteers visit women at home or accompany them to activities; working alongside them to encourage social and community involvement. This supportive relationship enables women to take the next steps towards achieving greater independence and self-confidence as well as becoming more active in society. Our pilot project revealed that an increasing number of minority ethnic and Muslim women are suffering from isolation due to an array of issues such as family breakdown, mental health, disability, language barriers and domestic abuse. Hence ‘Amina Befriending’ was established to provide vital support to a very vulnerable client group. Amina Carers Befriending Project will allow carers from the Muslim and other minority communities to be linked with a befriender and take part in a wide range of activities which aim to alleviate isolation and promote social integration. We are planning a range of activities and outings from lunch clubs to walking groups and shopping trips for women to participate in.
