I am a passionate advocate for unpaid carers and know personally the values of regular short breaks. I love my role as Grant Officer for the Short Break Fund and bring a unique insight as a parent carer, previous support worker, and volunteer co-ordinator within the third sector. My commitment comes from my role as a mother of two and the carer of my teenage son Jack who navigates the challenges of a learning disability and autism spectrum disorder. I know firsthand the demands and joys that come with caring for a loved one.
I especially enjoy project visits and getting out and about to meet grantholders throughout Scotland, recently helping facilitate Short Break Round Ups in Inverness, Oban, and Edinburgh. By listening to people’s stories and challenges, I can gain valuable insights into how the Short Break Fund can be tailored by projects to meet the unique demands of individuals and unpaid carers.
Both my husband and I recently enjoyed our first-ever holiday without the children to New York where we spent quality time together exploring the city that never sleeps!
